President Museveni has on Friday July 30 night announced the lifting of the 42-day Covid-19 lockdown in Uganda, with public transport and shopping centers all opened.
However, Mr. Museveni announced that places of worship/churches and schools will remain closed until the population is sufficiently vaccinated.
The President however announced that a security curfew would be maintained at 7pm, Ugandan time.
Inter-district travel was also relaxed but a 60-day ban on religious gatherings and and indefinite closure of the schools maintains, Mr. Museveni announced.
Addressing the nation from the State House, Museveni praised the country for “successfully” limiting the spread of the disease.
The President also maintained curfews measures but allowed BodaBodas to move—carrying one passenger at a time or cargo.
He announced that the busy downtown Kikuubo trading hub, has been allowed to open but under strict measures, with vaning of kiosks and roadside vending in the area.
The President encouraged traders to adapt to e-commerce.
Malls and other business Centres have been allowed to operate but under strict conditions including adequate lighting and ventilation.
He said only arcades who meet guidelines will be allowed to reopen.
Burial and wedding guidelines have been maintained until the whole population is sufficiently vaccinated, he announced.
