The third phase of the talks between Somalia and Ethiopia that was supposed to open in Turkey has been cancelled

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨Reports from Turkey and other international outlets suggest that the postponement of the #Ankara mediations is due to these key factors:

📌 The international community has taken note of the impasse, as neither Somalia nor Ethiopia has altered their positions regarding Ethiopia’s maritime annexation MoU with the separatists.

📌 In a recent televised interview, Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Fiqi, cautioned that if Ethiopia continues with the MoU, Somalia may resort to drastic measures, including aligning with Ethiopian rebel groups. This was followed by provocative comments from Ethiopia’s Deputy Representative to the African Union, further escalating tensions.

📌 The U.S. has recently shifted its previously passive stance on the MoU, strongly rejecting it and reaffirming its support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

These developments have caused significant concern in both the U.S. and Turkey, with fears that if the third round of talks fails, it could lead to a complete diplomatic breakdown and potential war. U.S. Secretary of State Blinken is expected to meet senior delegations from both countries on the sidelines of the upcoming UNGA meeting in the United States.
