Abbas lays down condition for Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza
President Abbas has said that the Palestinian Authority could return to power in the Gaza Strip only if a âcomprehensive political solutionâ is found for the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
After US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Abbas in Ramallah, a senior US State Department official told the Reuters news agency that Blinken had expressed that the PA should play a central role in âwhat comes next in Gazaâ.
âWe will fully assume our responsibilities within the framework of a comprehensive political solution that includes all of the West Bank, including east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip,â Palestinian news agency Wafa reported Abbas as telling Blinken.
Women and children are what Israel is targetingâ
The health ministry in Gaza reported that 21 Palestinians from the Abu Haseera family were killed when Israeli air strikes targeted their house in Gaza on Saturday night.
Hereâs what some of the survivors from the family told Al Jazeera:
Nael Abu Haseera, 42, one of the survivors of the attack, says people killed were still under the rubble.
âThere was no warning. We heard two huge explosions and ran out to see the houses of my cousins destroyed. Women and children are what Israel is targeting,â he told Al Jazeera.
Mahmoud Abu Haseera, a photographer for a Palestinian newspaper, told Al Jazeera he lost his wife, son, daughter and in-law as a result of the attack.
Attacks on refugee camps deter people in Gaza from travelling south
There seems to be a systematic attack on refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. In the last 30 minutes, a major attack on the Bureij refugee camp destroyed residential homes and killed a large number of people. We are yet to hear the exact number of casualties in this attack.
These repeated air strikes on refugee camps in central and southern Gaza are the reason why people are not taking the Israeli announcement of guaranteeing safe corridors to travel to the south seriously.
Another refugee camp hit in the Gaza Strip
Weâre hearing reports that Israeli air raids have targeted al-Bureij refugee camp in Gaza.
This is the third refugee camp to be hit in the last 24 hours after Maghazi and Jabalia.

The number of Israeli soldiers killed since the start of the war has now risen to 346, including 32 who died after Israeli troops entered Gaza.
Yehonatan Maimon, 20, was killed on Saturday while fighting in the north of the strip, the army said.
