Survivor describes Israeli attack on Gaza coastal road

A woman who survived today’s attack on al-Rashid Street, a major road on the Gaza coast, said she and her family were travelling in hopes of leaving the Palestinian territory when their bus was hit.

“We are US citizens,” the woman says in a video posted on social media by American Muslims for Palestine, a US advocacy group.

Speaking from the floor of a Gaza hospital, the woman says her 17-year-old daughter lost her hand in the attack, which killed at least 14 Palestinians who were trying to flee south, according to local authorities.

“They bombed our bus,” the woman shouts, waving US passports in front of the camera. “Look what they’re doing to American citizens.”

She adds: “They bombed our bus. The bus caught on fire while we were inside. We fled the area and walked on foot until we reached the hospital.

UNRWA: 420 children killed, injured in Gaza each day

In a joint statement with other UN agencies, UNRWA also said there are an estimated 50,000 pregnant women in the besieged enclave and more than 180 of them are giving birth every day.

About 15 percent of the women are expected to experience pregnancy or birth-related complications.

“Maternal deaths are expected to increase given the lack of access to adequate care,” the agencies said.

“The psychological toll of the hostilities also has direct – and sometimes deadly – consequences on reproductive health, including a rise in stress-induced miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births,” they said.

  • Israel has continued its deadly air attacks on Gaza, as the military says it has surrounded Gaza City.
  • An estimated 3,000 Palestinians from Gaza who were working in Israel when the war started have been forced to return to the enclave. Thousands were believed to had gone missing amid a campaign of mass arrests after October 7.
  • At least nine Palestinians killed in overnight Israeli raids across occupied West Bank, including five in Jenin.
  • Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is due to give his first public speech since the start of the war, while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is on his way to Israel, his third trip in recent weeks.
  • At least 9,227 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. More than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel.

Israeli army says it destroyed Hamas tunnels

The Israeli army says it uncovered and blew up a number of Hamas tunnels inside Gaza.

The operation was led by the Yahalom unit, a special division trained to deal with engineering tasks, such as destroying underground tunnels and planting explosives.

Hezbollah chief begins speech

The Hezbollah leader calls what’s happening now in Gaza a decisive battle that it’s not like previous wars.

He says this requires everyone to bear responsibility.

Nasrallah also outlines two goals: The first is to stop the war in Gaza and the second is for Hamas to be victorious in this war.

We are following the speech and bring you more shortly.

The Hezbollah leader says:

The Al-Aqsa Flood operation led to an earthquake in [Israel].

It has strategic and existential repercussions and will leave its effects on the present and future of [Israel].

What happened confirms that Iran does not exercise any guardianship at all over the resistance factions and the real decision-makers are the leaders of the resistance.

Nothing even started and we see the countries around the world sending their presidents, their ministers, their generals, their arsenals, their billions to support this illegitimate entity.

Nasrallah continues:

“We must salute the … strong and brave Iraqi and Yemeni hands who are now involved in this holy war.”

“There had to be a major event that would shake the usurping entity and its supporters in Washington and London and this is when the blessed operation of the October 7 took place.”

“The great Al-Aqsa Flood operation was decided and implemented 100 percent Palestinian.”

“Absolute secrecy is what ensured the success of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7.”

“We were not bothered by Hamas’s concealment of the October 7 attack plan.”

“Conditions in Palestine in recent years have been extremely harsh, especially with this extremist, foolish, stupid, and savage government.”

Families of victims of Hamas attack bring war complaint to ICC: Report

The families of nine Israeli victims of the Hamas attack on October 7 have filed a complaint at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague over alleged war crimes, Israeli media quote their lawyer as saying.

Francois Zimeray said in a statement that the families want Hamas prosecuted for genocide and the ICC to issue an international arrest warrant for the group’s leaders.

“The complaint concerns victims who were all civilians,” Zimeray said, arguing that his legal team had established that the genocide accusation “holds up before the law”

Analysis: Will Hassan Nasrallah declare war on Israel?

The highly anticipated speech of the Hezbollah head is expected to begin in about 40 minutes.

Lebanon has been on edge ahead of Hassan Nasrallah’s first public address since the war began, which residents and experts fear could inflame regional tensions if he pledges to escalate attacks against Israel.

“Even among [Nasrallah’s] supporters, there are people who feel that [the south] always fought Israel [in the past] and that right now … we’re not ready for war,” said Mohamad, a resident from southern Lebanon.

Analysts, meanwhile, say Nasrallah could warn Israel to reconsider its objective.

“I believe Hezbollah … views this conflict as an existential one,” said 犀利士 Mohanad Hage Ali, an expert on Lebanon with the Carnegie Middle East Center. “They think that if Israel manages to meet its objectives in eradicating Hamas in the Gaza Strip, then they will turn around and deal with what they see as the Hezbollah threat.”
