UN Human Rights office says Jabalia strikes ‘could amount to war crimes’
In a post on X, the UN office cited the “high number of civilian casualties & the scale of destruction” following the attacks on Gaza’s largest refugee camp.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza has said more than 50 people were killed in the attack and 150 were wounded, with searches for the missing continuing. Israel has said the attacks were targeting a high-level Hamas commander.
The UN rights office said, “… we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes.
Criminal against humanity’: Colombia’s Petro takes aim at Israel
A day after recalling the country’s ambassador, Colombian President Gustavo Petro took to X again condemned Israel in no uncertain terms.
“It’s called Genocide, they do it to remove the Palestinian people from Gaza and take it over,” Petro posted on X, with a picture of victims of the Israeli strikes on the Jabalia refugee camp.
“The head of the state who carries out this genocide is a criminal against humanity,” wrote Petro, Colombia’s first-ever leftist leader. “Their allies cannot talk about democracy.”
The post came hours before Israel’s ministry of foreign affairs called on Colombia and Chile, who also recalled their ambassador, to condemn Hamas.

Pope Francis says two-state solution is needed
Pope Francis has said a two-state solution was needed for Israel and Palestine, adding that war was always a defeat.
“[Those are] Two peoples who have to live together. With that wise solution, two states. The Oslo accords, two well-defined states and Jerusalem with a special status,” the Pope said in an interview with Italy’s RAI broadcaster
Argentina condemns Israel’s deadly attack on refugee camp in Gaza
The condemnation by Argentina, home to Latin America’s largest Jewish community, comes after neighbour Bolivia cut diplomatic ties with Israel and the left-wing leaders of Colombia and Chile recalled their ambassadors from Israel.
“Nothing justifies the violation of international humanitarian law,” the Argentinian foreign ministry said in a statement.
It also called for the release of captives held in Gaza.

33 journalists killed in Gaza war since October 7: Media watchdog
More members of the press have died in the first weeks of the Israel-Gaza war than any other conflict since at least 1992, the Committee to Protect Journalists has said.
The media watchdog said that as of today, 33 journalists have been killed, eight have been injured and nine others are missing or detained.
Israeli military spokesman says forces breached Hamas front line in northern Gaza
Spokesman Hagari said the Israeli operation in Gaza was “progressing as planned”, Israeli media reported.
“With planning in advance, precise intelligence, and joint attacks, our forces broke through Hamas’s frontlines of defence in the north of the Gaza Strip,” Hagari said, according to the Times of Israel.

Switzerland proposes $99m in aid to Middle East
The Swiss government is expected to ask parliament for additional funds to provide 90 million Swiss francs’ ($99m) worth of humanitarian aid to the Middle East amid the Israel-Hamas war.
“The humanitarian consequences of the armed conflict in the Middle East are dire in Israel, in the occupied Palestinian territory and in the neighbouring countries affected,” the Swiss Federal Council said in a statement.
The funds will mainly go to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the UN and international humanitarian NGOs in the region.
Israeli military says troops taking part in ‘multi-branch effort’
The Israeli military says its troops are carrying out a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip as part of a “joint multi-branch effort of ground, air and naval force”.
“In parallel to the expansion of ground activities [it] is taking place to thwart threats on the ground,” a statement said.
Fighter jets, drones, and naval vessels are assisting ground forces based on “real-time intel”.
“During these strikes, dozens of Hamas targets were struck, including observation posts, anti-犀利士 tank missile squads and launch posts, naval vessels and military posts,” the statement said, adding fighters were killed and infiltration prevented.
Thousands in Gaza need immediate medical help: WHO
The World Health Organization welcomed the first evacuations of wounded patients out of the Gaza Strip but stressed thousands of injured civilians and people with chronic illnesses also need treatment.
More than 1,000 patients need kidney dialysis to stay alive; 2,000 patients are on cancer therapy; 45,000 people have cardiovascular disease; and more than 60,000 have diabetes.
“These patients must be able to have sustained access to healthcare inside Gaza. Hospitals and other health facilities must be protected from bombardment and military use,” the UN health agency said.
The health ministry in Gaza says nearly 8,800 people have been killed since the war with Israel erupted. The death toll includes more than 3,600 children, while more than 22,000 people have been wounded.
