20- April-2024″ Somalia has once again refused to open dialogue with Ethiopia !!
The Federal Government of Somalia has ruled out talks with Ethiopia until Addis Ababa withdraws “nothing” from the agreement it entered into with Somaliland, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Somalia is committed to supporting peace and security in the region, and is eager to strengthen its cooperation with the G7 and other international partners, in order to ensure lasting peace and prosperity in the Horn of Africa,” the Somali government said in a statement.
G7 foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, commend the important progress in the institutional, macroeconomic and security sector in Somalia.
“The Somali government’s statement followed a statement issued by the foreign ministers of the G7 countries, namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the United States, who expressed concern about the agreement, and called on Ethiopia and Somalia to open all avenues for talks.
Somalia’s press release said, “Discussions with Ethiopia are unattainable unless they remove the illegal agreement they entered into with the Northern regions of Somalia (Somaliland) and show full respect for the unity, independence of Somalia and the principle of non-interference.”
